And When I Tell My Clients to Go
If Italy is on your list, you’re not alone.
It’s one of the most requested destinations I plan each year. And one of the first questions I’m asked is:
“When is the best time to visit Italy?”
The honest answer?
It depends on what kind of experience you want.
Because Italy in July feels very different from Italy in October. And both are very different from April.
Let me break it down the way I do for my clients.
Spring in Italy (April–June)
This is my personal favorite season to send clients.
Why?
Comfortable temperatures
Flowers blooming everywhere
Longer daylight hours
Fewer crowds than peak summer
Ideal for walking cities like Rome and Florence
April and May are especially beautiful. June starts to get busier, but it’s still manageable with the right planning. If you want that dreamy Italian experience, café tables, light layers, golden sunsets, this is it.
Summer in Italy (July–August)
This is when most Americans travel.
It’s also when:
Temperatures regularly hit 90°F+
Major cities are crowded
Lines are longer
Prices are higher
That said, summer is wonderful for:
The Amalfi Coast
Lake Como
Coastal Sicily
Family travel when school schedules dictate timing
If summer is your only option, it just needs to be planned strategically. Early morning tours. Private transfers. The right hotels. The right pacing.
Italy in summer can be magical or exhausting. Planning makes the difference.
Fall in Italy (September–October)
This is my “sweet spot” season.
Warm but not sweltering
Harvest season in Tuscany
Fewer cruise passengers in port cities
Beautiful golden light
More relaxed atmosphere
September is especially strong for clients who want warmth without peak summer chaos.
October is wonderful for food and wine lovers.
If you’ve ever dreamed of vineyard dinners or truffle hunting, this is your moment.
Winter in Italy (November–March)
Winter is underrated.
Yes, some coastal areas quiet down. Yes, certain hotels close.
But cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice feel more intimate.
Lower rates. Shorter lines. Christmas markets. Festive atmosphere.
If you don’t mind cooler weather, winter can be surprisingly lovely, especially for couples who prefer fewer crowds.
So… When Is The Best Time to Visit Italy?
For most of my clients?
Late April–Early June or September.
That’s when you get:
Pleasant weather
Manageable crowds
Better availability
A more relaxed pace
But the best time isn’t just about weather.
It’s about:
Your travel style
Your tolerance for crowds
Your budget
The type of experiences you want
A honeymoon in Lake Como is different than a multi-generational trip to Rome and Florence.
That’s why timing is always part of the planning conversation.
A Quick Planning Tip for 2026 Travelers
Flights typically open about 11 months out.
Luxury properties in places like Positano and Tuscany fill early, especially for May, June, and September.
If Italy is on your radar for next year, now is the time to start the conversation.
Because the “best time” also depends on availability.
If Italy is calling your name, I’d love to help you choose the season that fits you best.
Because Italy is always beautiful.
But it’s even better when it’s planned thoughtfully.
Happy Travels!
Lynette
