I've personally traveled through Italy, France, and Greece, not once, but across multiple trips spanning a wedding celebration, a family cruise, and repeat visits to Paris. My background as a historian shapes every itinerary I build: I don't just send you to see the icons; I help you understand the stories behind them.
France (Paris)
Paris is where my history background comes fully alive. I've stood at Versailles, walked through the Catacombs, and visited the Conciergerie: the actual prison where Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were held before their execution at the guillotine. I even saw one of the original "Taxis of the Marne," the Parisian cabs famously commandeered to rush French troops to the front in WWI. I brought that knowledge and those photos straight back into my classroom, where I taught 10th grade World History. Paris isn't just a destination I sell; it's a place I've used to teach real history to real students.
And of course, the icons are worth every bit of the hype too: the Louvre, Notre-Dame, the Eiffel Tower. But it's the lesser-known historical sites, the ones most tourists walk past, that I get the most excited to build into a client's itinerary.
Italy
Trip 1: Rome, Florence & Venice (For a Wedding)
This trip is where my history background and my love of travel really merged. In Rome, I gave our best friends my own personal walking tour: the Spanish Steps to the Trevi Fountain, leading the way myself rather than just following someone else's script. And of course we stopped by the Colosseum and the Pope's house (The Vatican).
Florence was the wedding itself, overlooking the Duomo, with a private tasting and tour at Raffino Winery and three couples sharing an apartment together. We even climbed to the top of the Duomo.
Then Venice: we spent our days shopping and exploring, took a gondola ride, and watched fireworks over St. Mark's Square with our closest friends.
Trip 2: A Disney Cruise Through Sicily & the Amalfi Coast, Plus an Extended Rome Stay
Our second Italy trip came years later, this time by cruise, with an extended stay in Rome at the end. In Taormina and Messina, we watched Mount Etna actively erupting in the distance! An unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime sight.
Naples served as our gateway to Pompeii, where we took a private tour of the ruins, and to Sorrento, where the lemons (and everything made from them) were a highlight all on their own.
Then Rome, this time to share the city with our kids and extended family. We even met up with another set of friends and their kids for a golf cart tour around the city, a completely different way to experience Rome than my original walking tour years before.
Greece
Mykonos was my favorite stop in Greece. Walking the streets of Little Venice and swimming in the Aegean Sea are memories I still think about.
Santorini is the iconic postcard image everyone imagines, and my daughter made it her personal mission to pet every cat we saw along the way.
Athens brought the history full circle for me; beyond the Acropolis, we stood in the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, a place that connects ancient Greek tradition to the modern world in a way I loved being able to show my own kids.
