In a footprint so compact and walkable you can go from your resort bed to barefoot in the sand in under three minutes.
For families traveling with toddlers, young children, or anyone who wants a truly unhurried, low-stress vacation, Negril is often the undisputed winner.
As a former World History and Geography teacher, I'm always fascinated by how geography shapes a destination's personality. Negril remained largely undeveloped and off the map until the mid-20th century, in part because the Great Morass, a massive, protected wetland just inland, made building roads into the area nearly impossible. That natural isolation kept Negril a sleepy fishing village far longer than Montego Bay or Ocho Rios, eventually attracting artists and free spirits in the 1960s who fell in love with its untouched coastline and unbelievable sunsets. That easygoing, "no pressure" Jamaican spirit is still baked into the resort today.

This is where my family stayed. We had a walkout room with a view of the playground and ocean behind it. What I loved is that I could see my kids learning to dive in the pool, right outside my room!
Calypso Cove: The easternmost village, set apart from the waterpark and pool complex, with a quieter, more residential feel.

Soy Sushi Bar and Yaku, a Peruvian kitchen, for guests wanting something beyond classic Caribbean fare
Kimonos, a teppanyaki restaurant with a chef-entertained hibachi grill that kids love

Seven Mile Beach is legendary for a reason. Because Negril sits in a protected, shallow bay on Jamaica's western tip, the ocean water here is remarkably calm, warm, and crystal-clear.
Ideal for young swimmers: there are virtually no big waves or undertows, making it feel like a giant, natural turquoise swimming pool. Toddlers can wade safely, and parents can actually relax.
Included water sports: paddleboards, ocean kayaks, and water trikes are available right from the shore. Certified divers enjoy included PADI scuba diving, and the resort also offers water skiing and wakeboarding.
The waterpark: smaller than the one at Turks & Caicos, but Negril's waterpark still features a lazy river, plunge pools, and slides scaled well for younger kids and tweens.
Scuba Diving: What's Different from Turks & Caicos

Lessons happen in the main pool, not a dedicated dive pool the way Turks & Caicos handles it, more casual and less intimidating for a nervous first-timer, though also more activity around you while you're learning.
