Luxury travel isn’t a star rating or a price tag. It’s a trip where every detail was researched and handled before you ever noticed it, so your only job is to enjoy where you are. That’s what a luxury travel advisor does, and it’s the whole idea behind my tagline: Deeply Researched. Effortlessly Delivered.

After 23 years in the classroom and nearly a decade planning travel, the question I hear most is some version of: “Lynette, what does luxury travel actually mean?”

Ask ten people and nine will describe a five-star hotel with gold-leaf ceilings. Those are lovely. I’ve stood under some very famous gilded ceilings. But a beautiful room isn’t the same thing as a beautiful trip. Plenty of people have had a stressful week in a very expensive hotel.

My definition is simpler. Luxury is not having to manage your own vacation.

History teacher note: cucina povera translates to “poor kitchen.” It came from farm families making something great out of whatever the land and the pantry gave them. Cooking it in a family kitchen teaches you more about Tuscany than any cooking class could.
